City In The Village

During my time living in Shanghai, I discovered what the metropolis is called a village in the city.This is the result of the process of urbanization and social development, but also brings a strong visual impact. Out of interest in urban structure, I developed the idea of exploring urban villages. After visiting different urban village landmarks many times, I photographed a series of images of both developed urban buildings and dilapidated buildings, and re- created them on the images with gold and coffee to highlight the con ict between the old and the new in urban development.

Due to the impact of the epidemic, I have traveled to different cities and have been forced to quarantine many times, living alone in hotels for several months. During this time I felt the emotion of loneliness, like being excluded from the world and society. When the epidemic was under control, I was freed and returned to Shanghai. Because of this experience, I wanted to document individuals who were just as likely to feel lonely as I was.They
are either elderly people who live alone, or basic laborers who are not valued, or people who feel lonely for various reasons. Eventually, I used the method of documentary photography to wander the streets of the city and photograph these various people.
